SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 95 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to welcome the delegation from Tarrant County and join in the celebration of Tarrant County Days at the State Capitol on February 6 and 7, 2013; and WHEREAS, Tarrant County was created in 1849 and has made the transformation from a frontier community to a modern, contemporary center for business, education, and world-class culture; the 2010 census placed its population at 1,809,034, and its citizens are served by 20 outstanding public school districts; and WHEREAS, The county draws visitors from around the world with exceptional entertainment and tourist attractions; Six Flags Over Texas, the Fort Worth Zoo, and Cowboys Stadium provide many opportunities for enjoyment for the entire family; Tarrant County is also known for its exemplary museums, with the Kimbell Art Museum and the Amon G. Carter Museum offering the best in classic and American art; and other area attractions include historic downtown Grapevine, the shops at Grapevine Mills, Southlake Town Square, Sundance Square, and the Fort Worth Stockyards; and WHEREAS, Tarrant County is also home to excellent institutions of higher education, including The University of Texas at Arlington, the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth, Texas Christian University, Tarrant County College, the College of Saint Thomas More, Arlington Baptist College, and Texas Wesleyan University, which offer opportunities for students and produce a highly educated workforce; and WHEREAS, The county features a diverse and prosperous business community that ranges from cattle ranching to small businesses to multinational corporations and includes leaders in the defense, aerospace, and transportation industries; Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, and the Alliance Airport all contribute to the regional and state economy; and WHEREAS, The visiting Tarrant County delegation is composed of civic, education, and business leaders and elected officials and is headed by County Judge B. Glen Whitley and County Commissioners Roy Charles Brooks, Andy H. Nguyen, Gary Fickes, and J. D. Johnson; and WHEREAS, The people of Tarrant County are justly proud of their community and can confidently face the future while embracing their rich heritage; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby recognize Tarrant County Days at the State Capitol in 2013; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this special occasion.
