SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 987 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Julia Johnson on the grand occasion of her 80th birthday; and WHEREAS, This gracious lady is well known for her charm and generosity of spirit, and she is a revered resident of Austin; and WHEREAS, Julia Johnson was born May 26, 1933, in Taylor, to Ed and Julia Kovar Lightner; she enjoyed 60 years of marriage to Bill Johnson, and together they raised three children, Billy, Teresa, and Joanne; she has been blessed with five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Johnson served the Texas Legislature with distinction for 40 years; she began her career in public service in 1955 with the Texas House of Representatives and went on to serve as an administrative assistant to Texas Senators Frank Lombardino, Carlos Truan, and J. E. "Buster" Brown; and WHEREAS, She remains active in the community and serves as a singer and pianist at her church and as president of Retirees Chapter 149 of the Texas Public Employees Association; and WHEREAS, In celebration of her birthday, friends and family are gathering on May 26, 2013, to congratulate her and share in this milestone in her life; a beloved and respected member of her community, she is noted for her courage, her compassion for others, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend Julia Johnson on her many achievements and extend to her best wishes for a memorable 80th birthday celebration; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
