 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The University of Texas at El Paso's men's track and
 field team won the 2013 Conference USA outdoor track and field
 championship with an exceptional performance at the conference
 meet, held May 9 through 12 at Rice University; and
 WHEREAS, Trailing the University of Houston by as many as 23
 points on the final day of the competition, the Miners surged to a
 15-point victory to claim their first conference title since 2008
 and the first under the tutelage of head coach Mike Laaksonen, who
 was chosen as the Conference USA Coach of the Year; and
 WHEREAS, Leading the way for UTEP was Anthony Rotich, named
 the event's Outstanding Male Performer, who collected gold medals
 in the steeplechase, the 1,500-meter run, and the 5,000-meter run;
 also capturing gold for the Miners were Mark Jackson in the triple
 jump, Abiola Onakoya in the 400-meter run, and Mr. Onakoya,
 A-Shawni Mitchell, Carnell Horn, and Daniel Tarango in the
 1,600-meter relay; and
 WHEREAS, Through hard work and an enduring commitment to
 excellence, the talented UTEP athletes realized their season-long
 goal of winning the conference title, and they may indeed take
 justifiable pride in their outstanding accomplishment; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate The University of Texas at El Paso
 men's track and field team on winning the 2013 Conference USA
 outdoor track and field championship and extend to the team's
 athletes, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for continued
 success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
