 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Roland Parrish of DeSoto is celebrating the grand
 opening of his 26th McDonald's franchise in Dallas on June 20, 2013,
 and this occasion presents a fitting opportunity to recognize an
 esteemed Texan and entrepreneur; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Parrish earned a bachelor's degree in management
 and a master's degree in business administration from Purdue
 University; before entering the restaurant business, he spent 13
 years with Exxon, where he became an award-winning district
 manager; and
 WHEREAS, In 1989, Mr. Parrish opened his first McDonald's
 franchise in the Pleasant Grove neighborhood of Dallas; over the
 past quarter-century, Parrish McDonald's Restaurants Ltd. has
 grown to include 25 more locations in North Texas, with annual sales
 topping $50 million; the company is the second largest
 minority-owned McDonald's franchisee in the United States, and for
 the past seven years it has been named as one of the top 100
 black-owned businesses in the nation by Black Enterprise magazine;
 and
 WHEREAS, A recognized leader in his industry, Mr. Parrish is
 serving his second term as chair and CEO of the National Black
 McDonald's Operators Association; he also sits on the board of
 directors for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater North
 Texas; his many awards include the Quest for Success Award from the
 Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce, the KRLD Community Award, the
 Burton D. Morgan Entrepreneurship Award from Purdue University, the
 A. Maceo Smith Award from the African American Museum of Dallas, and
 the 2010 Man of the Year Award from the South Dallas Business and
 Professional Women's Club; and
 WHEREAS, Roland Parrish has forged a remarkable career and
 created economic opportunity for numerous North Texas citizens, and
 it is a privilege to recognize both his professional achievements
 and his myriad contributions to the betterment of his community;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Roland
 Parrish on the grand opening of his 26th McDonald's franchise and
 extend to him and his employees sincere best wishes for continued
 success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Parrish as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
