H.R. No. 193 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, After nearly four decades of distinguished service in the field of education, Ronald Haugen is retiring as superintendent of the Anthony Independent School District in 2013; and WHEREAS, Since assuming his present post in 2007, Mr. Haugen has sought to achieve an educational environment in which every student receives instruction tailored to meet his or her individual needs; in addition to significant investments in classroom technology to support teachers and students in their work, his tenure has seen the passage of a $3 million bond issue, which will allow for the remodeling of the elementary and middle school buildings; the district is also planning a ribbon-cutting ceremony in August to celebrate the extensive renovation of its athletic stadium; and WHEREAS, Mr. Haugen spent the earlier part of his career in the Gadsden ISD in New Mexico and in the Canutillo ISD; after graduating from college in 1975, he joined the Gadsden district as a social studies teacher and a track and football coach; he went on to serve as athletic director and as assistant principal at Gadsden High School, then as a middle school principal and an elementary school assistant principal in Canutillo; he returned to the Gadsden district to become a high school principal, and he subsequently served as superintendent of the Gadsden ISD from 2001 to 2007; and WHEREAS, This esteemed educator earned a bachelor's degree in history from Arizona State University and a master's degree in education administration and supervision from The University of Texas at El Paso; he has held memberships in a number of professional organizations and has served on the board of directors of the Texas Rural Education Association, Cooperative Educational Services, and the New Mexico Activities Association; in recognition of the outstanding skill with which he carried out his responsibilities, he was nominated for the 2006 New Mexico Superintendent of the Year award; and WHEREAS, Through his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to the highest educational standards, Ronald Haugen has contributed immeasurably to advancing the missions of the districts in which he has worked, and he has helped countless area schoolchildren to acquire a strong academic foundation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Ronald Haugen on his retirement as superintendent of the Anthony Independent School District and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness as he embarks on a new chapter in his life; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Haugen as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
