 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The softball team from Hays High School in Buda
 reached the pinnacle of success by winning the 2013 University
 Interscholastic League 4A state championship on June 1 at McCombs
 Field in Austin; and
 WHEREAS, The Lady Rebels enjoyed a remarkable run through the
 postseason that included victories over Jefferson, Cedar Park,
 Dripping Springs, Moody, and Leander High Schools to reach the UIL
 State Tournament; in the semifinals, they faced a talented squad
 from Aledo that had won 24 straight games, but Hays scored a
 commanding 8-1 win to set up a championship showdown with Lucas
 Lovejoy; and
 WHEREAS, The title contest was played on a scorching-hot day
 and proved to be a high-scoring back-and-forth game, with Hays
 setting the tone early with a three-run first inning; Lovejoy
 battled back, and the score was tied at 8 after the fifth; in the
 next inning Lovejoy loaded the bases, but Sarah Leal, who pitched
 all seven innings for the Lady Rebels, recorded a key strikeout to
 end the threat; the Hays offense responded with a three-run
 outburst in the final frame to claim the state crown in an 11-8
 triumph; Hannah Ramsey, who had three hits and the game-winning RBI
 as well as a run-saving catch in center field, was named the Most
 Valuable Player of the tournament final; and
 WHEREAS, Excelling through teamwork, the Lady Rebels also
 received valuable contributions throughout the season from the
 other members of the roster: Traci Green, Addie Vayas, Haleigh
 Madden, Des'ree Wainright, Ashley Manning, Maddy Shannon, Clarissa
 Gonzalez, Brayden Pinckard, Karina Rocha, Kara Davis, Gabi Albarez,
 Angelica Arroyo, Brooke Vasquez, Lizzie Bowne, Aspen Salazar, and
 Michelle Pesina; these dedicated athletes benefited from the
 leadership of head coach Aaron Fuller and assistant coaches Holly
 Long and Allison Castillo, who guided Hays High to an outstanding
 31-10 record and the first softball state title in the school's
 history; and
 WHEREAS, Through long hours of work and an unwavering
 determination, the members of the Hays High softball team fulfilled
 their long-held goal of becoming state champions, and they may
 reflect with pride on their exceptional accomplishment; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Hays High
 School softball team on winning the UIL 4A state title and extend to
 the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
 continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
