H.R. No. 260
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The late George D. Thomas of CareFree Homes was
named the recipient of an inaugural Pioneer Award by the El Paso
Association of Builders; and
WHEREAS, A native of El Paso and a graduate of The University
of Texas at El Paso, Mr. Thomas built a house for his family, and
admiring friends subsequently asked him to build houses for them as
well; and
WHEREAS, Out of his efforts grew CareFree Homes, and over the
next decades, the business built thousands of houses throughout the
El Paso area; though Mr. Thomas passed away, his wife, Sally Thomas,
has continued to lead the operation; and
WHEREAS, George Thomas combined hard work and
entrepreneurial savvy to build a business that enabled many Texans
to realize their dream of home ownership, and it is fitting that his
memory be recognized with this prestigious award; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to George D.
Thomas on his posthumous receipt of the Pioneer Award from the El
Paso Association of Builders; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
