R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Prize Women's Ministry of Trinity Church in Lubbock
is hosting the second annual Running to Rescue race on June 8, 2013,
to heighten awareness of human trafficking and raise funds to aid
victims of this terrible crime; and
WHEREAS, Human trafficking is a problem of rising urgency in
the United States, where more than 17,500 adults and children are
victimized annually; the crime is often intertwined with drug
trafficking and prostitution, particularly when it involves
victims who are U.S. citizens, making it difficult to even assess
the full extent of its reach; foreign victims are more often found
in such sectors of the labor market as domestic service,
agriculture, manufacturing, janitorial services, hospitality, and
construction; and
WHEREAS, In its first year, Running to Rescue raised $21,000
for the A21 Campaign, which the race is also supporting in 2013; the
campaign works in partnership with law enforcement, foreign
embassies, service providers, and other nongovernmental agencies
to strengthen counter-trafficking efforts, including the
identification of traffickers and victims; in addition, it
coordinates with other organizations to provide victim assistance,
such as secure repatriation and referrals to service providers in
the home countries of the abused; and
WHEREAS, The members of Prize Women's Ministry are making a
positive impact through their dedicated efforts in behalf of the
victims of human trafficking, and it is indeed fitting to recognize
their outstanding contributions; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor Prize Women's
Ministry of Trinity Church on the occasion of its second annual
Running to Rescue race and extend to the members sincere best wishes
for continued success in their worthwhile endeavors; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
