No. 62 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Elizabeth Windon and Jacob Rowe, two outstanding tennis players from Kirbyville High School, were named 2013 SETX Players of the Year by the Southeast Texas Coaches Association; and WHEREAS, Both Ms. Windon and Mr. Rowe excelled during team tennis competition, winning all of their matches and helping the Wildcats to finish seventh in the state in Class 2A; the duo also emerged as title contenders in mixed-doubles play; following a first-place win at the Woodville Tournament, they claimed the district title and then went on to become regional champions by defeating the team from White Oak on April 19; their success in the regional competition earned them a place in the University Interscholastic League State Tournament, where their season drew to a close with a hard-fought loss in the 2A quarterfinals; and WHEREAS, In addition to representing their school with great distinction on the court, these notable young Texans have excelled in their studies, and both are looking ahead to college after having graduated with the Class of 2013 at Kirbyville; Ms. Windon plans to attend Texas A&M University to pursue a degree in horticulture, a subject that she focused on during four years of high school agriculture classes, while Mr. Rowe intends to study electrical engineering at Lamar University; and WHEREAS, These talented student-athletes have earned a place among the finest high school tennis players in the Lone Star State, and they may reflect with pride on their achievements and on the prestigious recognition that they have received; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Elizabeth Windon and Jacob Rowe on their receipt of SETX Player of the Year awards from the Southeast Texas Coaches Association and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Windon and Mr. Rowe as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
