No. 73 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The baseball team from Carlisle High School in Price reached the pinnacle of success by winning the 2013 University Interscholastic League 1A state championship on June 6 at Dell Diamond in Round Rock; and WHEREAS, Playing inspired baseball from start to finish in 2013, the Indians lost just one game in the regular season on their way to claiming the District 20-1A title; in the playoffs, the team reeled off victories over McLeod, Bowie, West Sabine, and Douglass High Schools to earn their place in the state tournament, and a win in the semifinals against Weimar allowed Carlisle to advance to the title contest against Stamford; and WHEREAS, Taking the mound with the state crown on the line, Zach Brightwell allowed only three hits and struck out seven in delivering a complete game to garner the most valuable player honor; Carlisle broke the game open with four runs in the fifth inning and went on to win 6-1, as Caleb Colley, Kolton Heim, Jaylan Holland, and Ty Baker each had multiple hits during the game; and WHEREAS, Excelling through a true team effort, the Indians also benefited from the valuable contributions made throughout the season by the other members of the roster: Kyle Byrd, Clay Allphin, Ben Goss, Shadow Sanders, Dylan Sanders, Cooper Grigsby, Michael Savala, Gunner Baker, Collin Gray, Justin McMurtry, and Dalton Sanders; the players were guided by head coach Wesley Colley and assistant coaches Rocky Baker and Cal Goss; and WHEREAS, In capturing the first state baseball championship in school history, the talented student-athletes of the Carlisle Indians baseball team demonstrated remarkable determination and an unwavering commitment to excellence, and they are a source of tremendous pride to their school and to their many supporters in the local community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Carlisle High School baseball team on winning the 2013 UIL 1A state championship and extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
