SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 103 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Leland Mebine on the occasion of his 100th birthday; and WHEREAS, This distinguished gentleman is well known for his wisdom and generosity of spirit, and he is a respected and admired citizen of Flower Mound; and WHEREAS, Leland Mebine was born June 26, 1913; he served the nation with distinction in the United States Navy during World War II; he continued his service to the country as a biochemist with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and as a deputy assistant secretary for research and development with the United States Air Force; and WHEREAS, He and his wife, Mary, moved to Flower Mound in 1984; he has been active in a wide variety of civic organizations, including the Summit Club, the Flower Mound Rotary Club, the Lewisville Education Foundation, and the Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce, which named him Citizen of the Year in 1988; and WHEREAS, Mr. Mebine has been a member of Flower Mound's historical commission and its planning and zoning commission, and he was elected to serve on the town council; and WHEREAS, A beloved member of his community, he is noted for his courage, his compassion for others, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Leland Mebine on his many achievements and extend to him best wishes for a memorable 100th birthday celebration; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
