SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 107 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Dr. Peter Rose, who has been awarded the Petroleum Group Medal by the Geological Society of London; and WHEREAS, This prestigious award is one of the world's highest honors bestowed in the field of petroleum geology; and WHEREAS, Dr. Rose is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin; he has held a variety of positions within the industry, including staff geologist at Shell Oil Company and chief of the oil and gas branch of the United States Geological Survey; he has also established a pair of independent consulting firms, Telegraph Exploration, Incorporated, and Rose and Associates; and WHEREAS, Dr. Rose is receiving this important award for his work in creating methods for the consistent estimation of risk in the exploration for oil; his process uses statistical analysis and explores such factors as the probability of finding oil and the cost of drilling and production, and it has become the industry standard among most of the world's oil and gas companies; and WHEREAS, He has been active in a variety of professional organizations, notably the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and he is in much demand as a lecturer on such topics as resource assessment, risk and uncertainty in exploration, and ethics in geoscience; he is truly deserving of recognition for his outstanding contributions to his field; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Dr. Peter Rose on his many achievements and extend congratulations to him on receiving the Petroleum Group Medal; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
