SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 127 In Memory of James Franklyn Potter WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Fort Worth in mourning the loss of James Franklyn Potter, who died May 19, 2013, at the age of 84; and WHEREAS, James Potter was born on May 29, 1928, in Jackson, Mississippi; he graduated from Yale University with a degree in chemical engineering; following his military service, he earned a master of business administration degree; and WHEREAS, James served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War; he was a liquid cargo officer aboard the USS Manatee; he began his career in petrochemicals at Esso Standard Oil Company and went on to work for Borg Warner Chemicals; he moved to Fort Worth to join the Western Company and served as its purchasing director until the company relocated; and WHEREAS, James was an avid sports fan, a lifelong follower of the New York Yankees, and an outstanding bridge player; he taught classes at Tarrant County College in the continuing education and senior programs; and WHEREAS, He was devoted to his wife, Shirley, and to his three children and grandson, and he was a devout Christian and an active member of Saint Stephen Presbyterian Church; and WHEREAS, He was an exemplary gentleman who was respected in the community for his accomplishments, and he was noted for his great sense of humor, his vast supply of jokes, and his engaging personality; and WHEREAS, James Potter gave unselfishly of his time to others and was beloved by many, and he will long be remembered with affection and appreciation by all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of James Franklyn Potter; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of James Potter.
