SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 34
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Dennis Walters for the extraordinary impact he has had
on others through golf; and
WHEREAS, As a young man, Dennis Walters dreamed of becoming
a member of the Professional Golfers Association Tour; a 1974
accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down ended that
dream but did not alter his determination to use the sport to
inspire others; and
WHEREAS, He was able to return to playing golf by utilizing
a swiveling seat attached to a golf cart; he has expanded his
repertoire of shots from those typically seen on the golf course
to include a wide variety of trick shots using an array of custom
golf clubs, including a three-headed club and clubs made from
such materials as a fishing rod, a radiator hose, a crutch, and a
cell phone; and
WHEREAS, Through the years, he has made more than 3,000
appearances across the country, entertaining countless people
while imparting his inspirational message of hope, hard work, and
perseverance; as the host of the Dennis Walters Golf Show, he
presents an hourlong combination of golf lessons and life
lessons, with enthusiastic audience participation; and
WHEREAS, Dennis Walters has transformed what many might
characterize as a handicap into a means to motivate and encourage
people to follow their dreams, and he is truly deserving of
recognition for his courage and determination; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Dennis Walters
for the hope and inspiration he has provided to others through
the Dennis Walters Golf Show and extend to him best wishes for
continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
