SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 4 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Henry R. Martinez for his many contributions to his community; and WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez is a veteran of the Korean War and a founder of the Ledbetter Neighborhood Association; under his leadership, this exemplary nonprofit organization has undertaken numerous projects to improve the community and to raise awareness of the neighborhood's Hispanic heritage; and WHEREAS, Among the association's notable accomplishments are renaming the Trinity Portland Cement Company Mexican Cemetery to El Campo Santo De Cemento Grande and making such improvements to this historic resting place as erecting two flagpoles, creating a display with photographs of the area's past, and acquiring a Historical Marker; and WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez has led the way as the association supported efforts to reduce lead contamination and prevent the siting of controversial establishments in the neighborhood; he played an important role in having the Eladio R. Martinez Learning Center named after a local World War II hero; and WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez has had a profound impact on his community, and it is truly fitting that he be recognized for his many achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd on his many contributions to his community and extend to him best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
