SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 40 In Memory of A'Lethea Norman Williams WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of A'Lethea Norman Williams, who died April 12, 2013, at the age of 83; and WHEREAS, A'Lethea Williams was born February 23, 1930, in Omaha, Nebraska, where she graduated from Central High School and was a member of Zion Baptist Church; she moved to Chicago in 1950 and worked for Ford Aircraft before opening Chick-a-Dees Day Nursery; and WHEREAS, She married Lucious Williams in 1955, and the couple raised a daughter, Evalynn Alberta Williams; the family moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1968 and operated a string of Weight Losers International franchises; she went on to become a licensed real estate broker and for years was a multimillion-dollar producer; she made it possible for countless African American families to own a home, and she served as a mentor to many in the profession; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams was active in political affairs and served on President Jimmy Carter's Advisory Commission on Agriculture; and WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, her generous spirit, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be forgotten; and WHEREAS, She was devoted to her family, and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by all those who were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of A'Lethea Norman Williams; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of A'Lethea Norman Williams.
