SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 58 In Memory of Yolanda Z. Gonzalez WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Brownsville in mourning the loss of Yolanda Z. Gonzalez, who died December 29, 2012; and WHEREAS, Yolanda Gonzalez was an exemplary citizen who was widely admired in her community for her many achievements; and WHEREAS, She worked for nearly 50 years at the library of The University of Texas at Brownsville-Texas Southmost College, where she became a well-known and beloved figure for her extensive knowledge of the history of the Rio Grande Valley, her work in the field of genealogy, and her enthusiasm for helping researchers and other citizens interested in South Texas history, genealogy, and culture; and WHEREAS, She played an important role in the creation of the Hunter Room in the Arnulfo L. Oliveira Memorial Library, a collection of university archives, genealogy, local history, rare books, and personal collections; she also served as president of the Matamoros Historical Organization and vice president of the Brownsville Historical Association; and WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and unbounded curiosity, she gave generously of her time and talent to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten; and WHEREAS, She was devoted to her family and friends, and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by all who were dear to her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Yolanda Z. Gonzalez; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Yolanda Z. Gonzalez.
