SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 7 In Memory of Ola V. Tryon WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Corpus Christi in mourning the loss of longtime civic leader Ola V. Tryon, who died May 17, 2013, at the age of 91; and WHEREAS, Ola Tryon was born to Daniel and Manassie Polk of Leon County; she married her husband, the late Roger Tryon, in 1941, and the couple moved to Corpus Christi; and WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced her faith in her daily life, she was a longtime member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church, where she was active in a wide variety of groups, including the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee and the United Methodist Women; and WHEREAS, She was affectionately known as the Hat Lady, and she took an active role as a leader in her children's Boy Scout and Girl Scout activities; she also gave generously of her time and talent to such organizations as the Beauty Court of Calanthe Chapter 371, the 1937 Art and Culture Club, and numerous senior citizen organizations; and WHEREAS, She was devoted to her large and loving family, and she leaves her 10 children, 22 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 27 great-great-grandchildren countless treasured memories that will be cherished in the years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Ola V. Tryon; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ola V. Tryon.
