SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 79 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Reverend Henry P. Davis, Jr., who is retiring as pastor of Saint Paul Baptist Church in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, after 40 years of dedicated service; and WHEREAS, Pastor Davis began serving at Saint Paul Baptist Church in 1973; over the last four decades, he has ministered faithfully to the temporal and spiritual needs of innumerable Christians, and he has developed extensive programs of evangelism, missions, education, and stewardship; and WHEREAS, Under his outstanding leadership, the church has provided enlightenment, hope, and support to the community; he has served as a mentor to many young ministers and pastors, and 12 members of his congregation, including his son, have been called to the ministry; and WHEREAS, An accomplished scholar and theologian, Pastor Davis holds a doctor of ministry degree from Drew University and a master of divinity degree from New Brunswick Theological Seminary; he also holds a master of education degree from Prairie View A&M University and a bachelor of science degree from Huston-Tillotson College; and WHEREAS, He has traveled extensively and has preached in several countries overseas; he is also active in the National Baptist Convention, USA, Incorporated, and has served the organization as secretary of the moderator's auxiliary for 13 years; and WHEREAS, Pastor Davis is president of the Greater Red Bank, New Jersey, chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and moderator of the Seacoast Missionary Baptist Association; he also serves as dean of education of the Monmouth Bible Institute in Farmingdale, New Jersey, and is a published author; and WHEREAS, Through his exemplary pastoral leadership, he has had a positive influence on the lives of many Christians; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby join the members of Saint Paul Baptist Church in commending the Reverend Henry P. Davis, Jr., on his 40 years of dedicated service to the church, the congregation, and the community; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
