SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 92 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the San Marcos Daily Record for its many years of outstanding service to the community; and WHEREAS, This venerable institution has throughout much of its history been an enterprise of the Buckner and Ray families; T. A. Buckner bought a share of the paper in 1921, and members of his family played an important role in its operation for 55 years; the Ray family became involved in 1977 when Rowe Ray became managing editor, a position he continues to hold, and his wife, Karen, serves as creative director; and WHEREAS, The newspaper has often been a leader in adopting new technology; it was one of the first in Central Texas to install a web offset press, and it computerized its newsroom in the 1980s; its Internet presence was launched in 2000; and WHEREAS, Many well-known newspapermen gained early experience at the paper, and President Lyndon B. Johnson and State Senator Walter Richter also spent much time at the Record in their respective roles as editor of and advisor to the Southwest Texas State University College Star, which was printed there; and WHEREAS, The San Marcos Daily Record has served its readers for more than a century, providing them with the information they need to become informed citizens; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the publisher, editors, and staff of the San Marcos Daily Record for their exemplary work in carrying on the newspaper's legacy of community service and extend best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the paper as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
