 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The family and friends of Cynthia Elaine Jones Burks
 of Grand Prairie sustained a great loss with her untimely passing on
 June 29, 2013, at the age of 57; and
 WHEREAS, Born in Houston on December 30, 1955, Cynthia Burks
 graduated with honors from Phillis Wheatley High School; she joined
 the National Guard in 1974 and went on to serve as a medic in the
 Houston-Galveston area and then in Laredo before being assigned to
 Grand Prairie in 1988; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Burks was called to active duty in 1990 and
 deployed to the Middle East during Operation Desert Storm; three
 years later, she was medically discharged as a sergeant first
 class; and
 WHEREAS, Though she suffered from health problems, Ms. Burks
 became an active volunteer with the USO, the Veterans of Foreign
 Wars, and the Disabled American Veterans; dedicated to supporting
 her fellow service members, she met troops as they arrived and
 departed from DFW International Airport, and she attended many
 funerals for veterans and fallen soldiers; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Burks was a devoted mother to three sons,
 Marcus, Kendrick, and Charles, and an active member of the
 congregation at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Arlington; and
 WHEREAS, Although her life ended far too soon, Cynthia Burks
 will forever hold a treasured place in the hearts of all those
 privileged to share in her love and friendship; now, therefore, be
 it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
 Cynthia Elaine Jones Burks and extend sincere sympathy to the
 members of her family: to her sons, Marcus, Kendrick, and Charles
 Burks; to her sisters, Yvonne Jones-Darnell and Wanda, Deborah, and
 Darlene Jones; to her brothers, Kenneth Jones, Sr., and Rodney
 Jones; to her grandchild; and to her other relatives and many
 friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Cynthia
 Elaine Jones Burks.
