 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Judy Smith concluded her service as the Republican
 chair of Precinct 72 in Montgomery County in May 2013, and her
 steadfast efforts in behalf of the party are indeed deserving of
 recognition; and
 WHEREAS, Actively engaged in the political process for many
 years, Mrs. Smith has attended every Republican state convention
 since moving to Texas in 1982; she has shared her time with a number
 of convention committees and has played a particularly important
 role in groups focusing on rules and credentials; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith began her work as a precinct chair in
 1983 in Harris County; she served in that capacity for 14 years
 before relocating to Montgomery County, where she became the first
 chair of Precinct 72; at its inception in 1998, the precinct
 included 600 registered voters, a number that has grown to more than
 3,000 in the years since; Mrs. Smith's able leadership has helped
 the precinct to establish one of the highest percentages of voter
 turnout in the county; and
 WHEREAS, In addition to her work as precinct chair,
 Mrs. Smith completed two terms on the State Republican Executive
 Committee and chaired Senatorial District 7 in Harris County and
 District 3 in Montgomery County; she has also been a dedicated
 leader in the Texas Federation of Republican Women, serving as
 co-chair of Victory 2002, chair for the organization's state voter
 registration initiative in 2004, and vice president of membership
 and programs; she has led two TFRW groups as president, including
 North Shore Republican Women, which she helped found in the early
 2000s, and she is currently the co-chair of patrons for the
 federation; in recognition of her achievements, the group named her
 one of the 10 Outstanding Republican Women in Texas in 2005; and
 WHEREAS, In all of her endeavors, Mrs. Smith has been
 supported by a loving family that includes her husband, Bob, with
 whom she has shared 55 years, as well as three children and three
 grandchildren; and
 WHEREAS, Judy Smith has demonstrated a strong commitment to
 her ideals and to the democratic process, and she may reflect with
 pride on her contributions to the political life of Montgomery
 County; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby honor Judy Smith for her
 service as Republican chair of Montgomery County Precinct 72 and
 extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mrs. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
