H.R. No. 58 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Gary Englert has been named the 2013 Citizen of the Year by the Baytown Sun; and WHEREAS, A Baytown native, Mr. Englert became involved in volunteer work as a member of the Lee High School Key Club, a junior affiliate of Kiwanis International; he went on to attend Lee College and completed his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Houston--Clear Lake; and WHEREAS, Mr. Englert has served on the boards of a wide range of organizations, including the Baytown Family YMCA, the Baytown Resource and Assistance Center, and the Bay Area Rehabilitation Center, as well as on the United Way Agency Review Committee; particularly rewarding has been his participation in the Baytown Kiwanis Club, where he became a mentor to a child he befriended through the group's "lunch buddies" program; and WHEREAS, This active and admired citizen has further served on the executive board of the Baytown Chamber of Commerce and on the City of Baytown's Urban Rehabilitation Standards Review Board; generous to his alma mater, he is a former chair of the Lee College Foundation Board and a committee member of the Lee College Bond Political Action Committee; in addition, he has served as a member of the Sterling Municipal Library board for a decade, including several terms as chair; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Englert enjoys the love and support of his wife, Diane, another lifelong resident of Baytown, and their son; he is also a valued congregant of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and a member of its finance board; and WHEREAS, The strength of our communities depends on the dedication of individuals such as Gary Englert, whose record of civic pride and purposeful effort is an inspiration to all who know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Gary Englert on his selection as the 2013 Baytown Citizen of the Year and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Englert as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
