H.R. No. 94 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Donald Wayne Garner celebrated his 50th birthday on July 2, 2013, and this occasion provides a welcome opportunity to recognize this respected member of the Capitol community; and WHEREAS, A native of the Lone Star State, Don Garner was born at Baylor Hospital in Dallas in 1963; he graduated from Plano Senior High School and played football for Ranger College before earning his bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at Austin; and WHEREAS, Brother Garner worked for Electronic Data Systems for nearly a decade before enrolling at Criswell College, where he received his master of divinity degree; through the years, he has led a number of congregations, pastoring First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge, First Baptist Elmont, and Central Baptist Church in Aurora, Colorado; and WHEREAS, In 2008, Brother Garner joined Capitol Commission, a national ministry that specializes in serving elected officials; in his role as Texas state director, he conducts weekly Bible studies with legislators and staff during the legislative session and travels throughout the state to provide continued support during the interim; an individual of great conviction and compassion, he has inspired many through his impassioned teaching and unwavering belief in the power of prayer; and WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Brother Garner is supported by a loving family; he married his high school sweetheart, the former Tracey Lynne Basham, in 1985, and today, they are the proud parents of seven children, Jessica Sherrill and her husband, Joshua, and Benjamin, Rachel, Luke, Samuel, Donald, and Emma Garner; in his leisure time, he enjoys mountain biking and golfing; and WHEREAS, Don Garner has been a tremendous source of encouragement, guidance, and solace for members of the Texas Legislature, and it is a pleasure to honor him for 50 years of life well lived; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby honor Donald Wayne Garner on his 50th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Brother Garner as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
