 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The Kristine Elizabeth Meza Memorial Foundation is
 dedicated to raising awareness of the devastating effects of
 domestic violence, to supporting education, and to funding women's
 shelters; and
 WHEREAS, This noteworthy organization was created in tribute
 to Kristine Elizabeth Meza, a Laredo native who was killed by her
 ex-boyfriend outside her home in San Antonio on February 11, 2011,
 when she was just 25 years old; and
 WHEREAS, A vibrant and caring young woman, Ms. Meza was the
 daughter of Agustin Meza III and Laura Acevedo; known for her
 radiant smile, outgoing personality, and positive attitude, she
 brightened the days of innumerable people, and her strong faith was
 a source of inspiration to others; she was working her way through
 school and had been accepted into the nursing program at San Antonio
 College shortly before her death; and
 WHEREAS, Following her murder, her father established the
 Kristine Elizabeth Meza Memorial Foundation, which raises funds for
 academic scholarships and women's shelters with an annual golf
 tournament, makes presentations to educate the public about
 domestic violence, and supports the Garden of Hope at the Casa de
 Misericordia shelter in Laredo to serve as a place of solace for
 abused women and their children; and
 WHEREAS, Today, the Kristine E. Meza Memorial Foundation is
 guided by a board of directors that includes Agustin Meza III,
 president, Vilma Saenz, vice president, Vilma Melinda Meza, second
 vice president, Laura Cabello, treasurer, Selma Gonzalez,
 secretary, Michelle Bullock, second secretary, Saul Meza,
 parliamentarian, and three organization speakers, Selma Melinda
 Gonzalez, Veronica Gonzalez, and Nitza Gonzalez; and
 WHEREAS, The tragic death of Kristine Meza brought a great
 loss to her family and her many friends, and the foundation
 established in her honor is committed to continuing her legacy of
 compassion by assisting those who suffer from domestic violence;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
 Kristine Elizabeth Meza and commend the members of the Kristine
 Elizabeth Meza Memorial Foundation for their important work; and,
 be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the foundation as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
