SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 46 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Shirley Gladney, who retired January 31, 2013, after more than 39 years of outstanding service with the United States Postal Service; and WHEREAS, Shirley began her postal career on November 10, 1973, as a distribution clerk; she went on to become the first African American in the Dallas postal service to serve as a clerk-stenographer; and WHEREAS, She displayed exceptional organizational skills and expertise throughout her tenure with the postal service, and she contributed to the successful operation of many departments; she received numerous awards and certificates for her outstanding performance; and WHEREAS, Capable and hard-working, she was able to successfully complete a college degree while working for the postal service; she is also a gifted entrepreneur and has become licensed as a real estate agent, a recording agent, and a paralegal; and WHEREAS, An exemplary employee, she earned the respect and admiration of her fellow workers, and her presence at the United States Postal Service will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend Shirley Gladney on her exceptional service as an employee of the United States Postal Service and extend to her best wishes for continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
