SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 52 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Saint Paul United Methodist Church of Dallas on the occasion of its 140th anniversary; and WHEREAS, Saint Paul United Methodist Church traces its roots to a mission of the Wesley Church in New Orleans; it was formally organized in 1873 by Reverend H. Boliver and remains at its original location on Routh Street; and WHEREAS, From serving as the first home of Samuel Huston College in 1876 to its current role as "the Soul of the Arts District" in Dallas, this historic church has continued to grow and to play a vital part in the life of the community; and WHEREAS, Saint Paul United Methodist Church provides its congregation and community a wide array of programs, including the Body and Soul Ministry, which serves meals to the homeless, Arts Vision, a youth arts and performance summer camp, and Tuesday Nite Jazz, a curated musical performance series offering live jazz on the second Tuesday of each month; and WHEREAS, Through the years, the church has served as an invaluable source of strength for its congregation during times of hardship and bereavement and a place of fellowship during times of abundance and joy; and WHEREAS, The celebration of its 140th anniversary is an expression of the church's enduring commitment to providing enlightenment and hope to its congregation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and members of Saint Paul United Methodist Church on the joyous occasion of its 140th anniversary; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the church as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
