SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 62 In Memory of Don Lee WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Don Lee, an esteemed civic leader and former state legislator, who died August 26, 2012, at the age of 78; and WHEREAS, Don Lee was born December 7, 1933, in Snyder; he grew up in various cities across the state, and he graduated from Raymondville High School in 1953; and WHEREAS, He worked for a time at the Raymondville Post Office, and he joined the Texas Department of Insurance in 1957 as a property rating territory supervisor in the Rio Grande Valley; in 1964, he became a partner in Head and Lee Insurance in Harlingen, and two years later, he became the agency's sole proprietor; and WHEREAS, He began his political career in 1979 as a member of the Harlingen City Council, where he served until taking office as a state representative from Cameron County in 1981; his work in the legislature included serving as vice chair of the Public Health and Insurance Committees; and WHEREAS, He returned to the Texas Department of Insurance in 1987 and played an important role in the launch of the coastal wind pool insurance operation, an insurance project he had promoted during his tenure in the legislature; he remained with the insurance department until his retirement in 1994; and WHEREAS, Mr. Lee was active in numerous civic and philanthropic organizations and was especially proud of his work with the Jaycees; he served as president of the Harlingen Chapter, and under his leadership, the chapter earned the title of Outstanding Club in Texas and received the Giessenbier Award; in addition, he was named Elk of the Year and Outstanding Lion of the Year, and he chaired fund drives for United Way and the March of Dimes; and WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he gave generously of his time and energy to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten; and WHEREAS, Don Lee lived his life to the fullest and was beloved by many, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Don Lee; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Don Lee.
