                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 92
 In Memory
 of
 J. D. Nelson
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
 commemorates the life of J. D. Nelson, who died June 30, 2013, at
 the age of 76; and
 WHEREAS, J. D. Nelson was born in Boston; he grew up in one
 of the first African American families to live in the city's
 Roxbury neighborhood and was a graduate of Roxbury Memorial High
 School; and
 WHEREAS, He served the country with distinction as a member
 of the United States Navy; after his military service, he entered
 the field of banking as a teller; despite his lack of a college
 degree, he utilized his extraordinary leadership skills and
 business acumen to rise to the position of senior vice president
 at State Street Bank; he went on to found RhumbLine Advisers, a
 leading investment firm that owes its success to his
 competitiveness and legendary client service skills; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Nelson was active in numerous political
 endeavors and served as chief administrative and budget officer
 for the Democratic National Committee during President Carter's
 administration; he was also a member of the transition team for
 the first term of Boston Mayor Raymond L. Flynn; and
 WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and integrity, he gave
 unselfishly to others, and his brilliance, his engaging sense of
 humor, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will
 not be forgotten; and
 WHEREAS, He was devoted to his family, and he leaves behind
 memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
 countless friends; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
 condolences to the bereaved family of J. D. Nelson; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of J. D. Nelson.
