SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 97
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Elizabeth Schleder for her outstanding work on behalf
of Honor Flight Austin; and
WHEREAS, Betty Schleder is the Williamson County and Sun
City representative for Honor Flight Austin, the local branch of
the national nonprofit organization Honor Flight, which was
created to pay tribute to our nation's veterans; the organization
provides veterans with the opportunity to fly to Washington, D.C.,
to visit the memorials built to commemorate their invaluable
contributions to our country's safety and security; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Schleder began fund-raising efforts on
behalf of Honor Flight Austin almost immediately following her
participation in the organization's inaugural trip in 2012; in a
few short months, she was able to personally raise more than
$40,000 for the program, enough to completely fund a flight; and
WHEREAS, As part of her mission to raise funds, Mrs. Schleder
has worked tirelessly with local businesses and groups,
including the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs and various Sun City
Neighborhood Representative Organizations; she has gone on to
raise a total of more than $100,000, and she is seeking to raise
enough funds to sponsor at least eight flights this year; and
WHEREAS, She is truly deserving of recognition for her
dedication and commitment to serving our nation's veterans; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend Elizabeth
Schleder on her exceptional efforts on behalf of Honor Flight
Austin and extend to her best wishes for continued success in all
her endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
