SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 99 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize John Allen Chalk, who has been named the recipient of the 2013 Blackstone Award by the Tarrant County Bar Association; and WHEREAS, This prestigious award is the highest honor bestowed by the Tarrant County Bar Association; the award recognizes recipients' ability, integrity, character, and career longevity; and WHEREAS, Mr. Chalk began his professional life as a minister, but he found himself at odds with his church's stance on such issues as civil rights and women's rights; he chose instead to pursue a career in law, and he earned a degree from The University of Texas School of Law and worked for a time in Abilene and Dallas before moving to Fort Worth in 1986 and joining the firm of Gandy Michener; and WHEREAS, Today, he is a partner in that firm, which is now known as Whitaker, Chalk, Swindle, and Schwartz; over the years, he has concentrated his efforts on business and commercial litigation, which has included a good deal of mediation and arbitration; and WHEREAS, Mr. Chalk has served as a mentor and inspiration to several generations of Fort Worth attorneys, and he is truly deserving of recognition for his many accomplishments and for his professionalism; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend John Allen Chalk on his many achievements and extend congratulations to him on being named the recipient of the Blackstone Award; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
