SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 11 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Ola V. Allen on the grand occasion of her 90th birthday; and WHEREAS, Ola was born July 23, 1923, in Jeanerette, Louisiana, to James and Sarah Graves; she moved to Houston as a young child and attended Jack Yates High School; and WHEREAS, She married Isiah Allen, Jr., in March of 1947 and together they had four children; they were active participants in the civil rights and voting rights movements and served their local community by working at polling stations; and WHEREAS, A dedicated mother, Mrs. Allen lovingly guided her children's spiritual education at home and remained closely involved with educational and extracurricular activities throughout their school years; she was proud to see each of them attend college; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Allen found personal fulfillment with a rewarding nursing career that spanned nearly three decades; a woman guided by faith, she served as a missionary in both the United States and Belize and was a founding member of Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church; and WHEREAS, Ola Allen is a kindhearted and charismatic woman who is beloved by her family and friends, and it is truly fitting that she be honored on this special day; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby recognize Ola V. Allen as a treasured citizen of our state and extend to her best wishes for her 90th birthday; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as a memento of this special occasion.
