| 8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Chapter 322, Government Code, is amended by | |
| 10 | 10 | adding new Section 322.025 to read as follows: | |
| 11 | 11 | Sec. 322.025. COST OF EDUCATION STUDY. It is the intent of | |
| 12 | 12 | the legislature that the Legislative Budget Board, using funds | |
| 13 | 13 | appropriated by this Act, shall conduct a study on the cost of | |
| 14 | 14 | education index adjustment contained in Chapter 203, Title 19, | |
| 15 | 15 | Texas Administrative Code. The study must be based on the most | |
| 16 | 16 | recent information available regarding costs incurred by school | |
| 17 | 17 | districts throughout the state and must propose a formula for the | |
| 18 | 18 | calculation of each public school district's cost of education | |
| 19 | 19 | index that may be used by the Texas Education Agency in determining | |
| 20 | 20 | each district's state aid for the 2016-2017 school year and | |
| 21 | 21 | subsequent school years. The Legislative Budget Board shall issue | |
| 22 | 22 | recommendations arising from the study to the legislature, the | |
| 23 | 23 | governor, and the lieutenant governor not later than January 1, | |
| 24 | 24 | 2017. |
