| 13 | 13 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 14 | 14 | | SECTION 1. Section 61.9794(b), Education Code, is amended |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (b) To maintain eligibility, each year beginning with the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | third [second] year following implementation of a scholarship |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | program under this subchapter, an institution must demonstrate to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the board that at least 70 percent of the institution's T-STEM |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Challenge Scholarship recipients [graduates], within twelve |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | [three] months of receipt of a scholarship [after graduation], are: |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (1) employed [by a business in a Science, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) field]; or |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (2) enrolled in [upper-division] courses leading to a |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | certificate or an associate or baccalaureate degree in a Science, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) field. |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | SECTION 2. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | shall award scholarships under Subchapter GG, Chapter 61, Education |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Code, as amended by this Act, beginning with the 2015-2016 academic |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | year. |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
