99 relating to continuing eligibility requirements for institutions
1010 of higher education to participate in the Texas Science,
1111 Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (T-STEM) Challenge
1212 Scholarship Program.
1313 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1414 SECTION 1. Section 61.9794(b), Education Code, is amended
1515 to read as follows:
1616 (b) To maintain eligibility, each year beginning with the
1717 third [second] year following implementation of a scholarship
1818 program under this subchapter, an institution must demonstrate to
1919 the board that at least 70 percent of the institution's T-STEM
2020 Challenge Scholarship recipients [graduates], within twelve
2121 [three] months of receipt of a scholarship [after graduation], are:
2222 (1) employed [by a business in a Science,
2323 Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) field]; or
2424 (2) enrolled in [upper-division] courses leading to a
2525 certificate or an associate or baccalaureate degree in a Science,
2626 Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) field.
2727 SECTION 2. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
2828 shall award scholarships under Subchapter GG, Chapter 61, Education
2929 Code, as amended by this Act, beginning with the 2015-2016 academic
3030 year.
3131 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
