13 | 13 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

14 | 14 | | SECTION 1. Section 61.9794(b), Education Code, is amended |
---|
15 | 15 | | to read as follows: |
---|
16 | 16 | | (b) To maintain eligibility, each year beginning with the |
---|
17 | 17 | | third [second] year following implementation of a scholarship |
---|
18 | 18 | | program under this subchapter, an institution must demonstrate to |
---|
19 | 19 | | the board that at least 70 percent of the institution's T-STEM |
---|
20 | 20 | | Challenge Scholarship recipients [graduates], within twelve |
---|
21 | 21 | | [three] months of receipt of a scholarship [after graduation], are: |
---|
22 | 22 | | (1) employed [by a business in a Science, |
---|
23 | 23 | | Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) field]; or |
---|
24 | 24 | | (2) enrolled in [upper-division] courses leading to a |
---|
25 | 25 | | certificate or an associate or baccalaureate degree in a Science, |
---|
26 | 26 | | Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) field. |
---|
27 | 27 | | SECTION 2. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board |
---|
28 | 28 | | shall award scholarships under Subchapter GG, Chapter 61, Education |
---|
29 | 29 | | Code, as amended by this Act, beginning with the 2015-2016 academic |
---|
30 | 30 | | year. |
---|
31 | 31 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
