55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to a study on the performance and operations of public
88 schools that operate on a year-round system.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. In this Act, "agency" means the Texas Education
1111 Agency.
1212 SECTION 2. The agency shall conduct a study of schools
1313 operating on a year-round system under Section 25.084, Education
1414 Code. The study must:
1515 (1) identify the number of schools in the state that
1616 operate on a year-round system;
1717 (2) compare the performance on state assessment
1818 instruments under Section 39.023, Education Code, and the SAT or
1919 ACT of students attending schools that operate on a year-round
2020 system with the performance of students attending schools that
2121 operate on a traditional school year calendar; and
2222 (3) examine the manner in which the academic calendars
2323 of schools that operate on a year-round system are structured in
2424 relation to the administration dates of state assessment
2525 instruments under Section 39.023, Education Code.
2626 SECTION 3. Not later than December 1, 2016, the agency shall
2727 deliver a report containing the findings of the study conducted
2828 under Section 2 of this Act to the governor, lieutenant governor,
2929 speaker of the house of representatives, and appropriate committees
3030 of the legislature.
3131 SECTION 4. This Act expires December 31, 2016.
3232 SECTION 5. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3333 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3434 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3535 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3636 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
