| 7 | 7 | | relating to a study on the performance and operations of public |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | schools that operate on a year-round system. |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. In this Act, "agency" means the Texas Education |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Agency. |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 2. The agency shall conduct a study of schools |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | operating on a year-round system under Section 25.084, Education |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Code. The study must: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (1) identify the number of schools in the state that |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | operate on a year-round system; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (2) compare the performance on state assessment |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | instruments under Section 39.023, Education Code, and the SAT or |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | ACT of students attending schools that operate on a year-round |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | system with the performance of students attending schools that |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | operate on a traditional school year calendar; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (3) examine the manner in which the academic calendars |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | of schools that operate on a year-round system are structured in |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | relation to the administration dates of state assessment |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | instruments under Section 39.023, Education Code. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | SECTION 3. Not later than December 1, 2016, the agency shall |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | deliver a report containing the findings of the study conducted |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | under Section 2 of this Act to the governor, lieutenant governor, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | speaker of the house of representatives, and appropriate committees |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | of the legislature. |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | SECTION 4. This Act expires December 31, 2016. |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | SECTION 5. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
