9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 28.025, Education Code, is amended by | |
11 | 11 | adding Subsection (b-21) to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (b-21) The State Board of Education shall adopt rules | |
13 | 13 | requiring students enrolled in grade level 12 to complete a course | |
14 | 14 | on the United States Constitution as part of a district's social | |
15 | 15 | studies curriculum. | |
16 | 16 | SECTION 2. Section 28.025(b-21), Education Code, as added | |
17 | 17 | by this Act, applies beginning with students who enter the ninth | |
18 | 18 | grade during the 2015-2016 school year. | |
19 | 19 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
20 | 20 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
21 | 21 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
22 | 22 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
23 | 23 | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
