55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to inclusion of a course on the United States Constitution
88 in the curriculum requirements for public high school students.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 28.025, Education Code, is amended by
1111 adding Subsection (b-21) to read as follows:
1212 (b-21) The State Board of Education shall adopt rules
1313 requiring students enrolled in grade level 12 to complete a course
1414 on the United States Constitution as part of a district's social
1515 studies curriculum.
1616 SECTION 2. Section 28.025(b-21), Education Code, as added
1717 by this Act, applies beginning with students who enter the ninth
1818 grade during the 2015-2016 school year.
1919 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2020 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2121 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2222 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2323 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
