55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the posting of the Ten Commandments in public school
88 classrooms.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 11, Education Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 11.173 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 11.173. POSTING OF TEN COMMANDMENTS. The board of
1313 trustees of an independent school district may not prohibit the
1414 posting of a copy of the Ten Commandments in a prominent location in
1515 a district classroom.
1616 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016
1717 school year.
1818 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1919 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2020 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2121 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2222 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
