66 AN ACT
77 relating to the collection and disclosure of certain grand jury
88 information.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Article 19.42, Code of Criminal Procedure, is
1111 amended by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (c) to
1212 read as follows:
1313 (a) Except as provided by Subsections [Subsection] (b) and
1414 (c), information collected by the court, court personnel, or
1515 prosecuting attorney during the grand jury selection process about
1616 a person who serves as a grand juror, including the person's home
1717 address, home telephone number, social security number, driver's
1818 license number, and other personal information, is confidential and
1919 may not be disclosed by the court, court personnel, or prosecuting
2020 attorney.
2121 (c) The court shall collect statistical information
2222 regarding each grand juror's race, gender, and age. The
2323 information collected under this subsection must be made available
2424 to the public in aggregate form by the court. Any identifying
2525 information about a grand juror collected under this subsection
2626 must be redacted before the disclosure of the statistical
2727 information.
2828 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2929 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3030 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3131 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3232 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
