7 | 7 | | relating to the issuance of a license in this state to certain |
---|
8 | 8 | | physicians licensed outside of this state. |
---|
9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
---|
10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. The purpose of this Act is to improve health care |
---|
11 | 11 | | in this state by encouraging physicians to relocate to this state |
---|
12 | 12 | | and by providing for the expedited licensing of those physicians. |
---|
13 | 13 | | SECTION 2. Subchapter A, Chapter 155, Occupations Code, is |
---|
14 | 14 | | amended by adding Section 155.010 to read as follows: |
---|
15 | 15 | | Sec. 155.010. LICENSING OF PHYSICIANS WITH CERTAIN |
---|
16 | 16 | | SPECIALTIES; RECIPROCITY. (a) This section applies only to an |
---|
17 | 17 | | applicant who is a physician licensed in a jurisdiction other than |
---|
18 | 18 | | this state and who holds a specialty certification recognized by |
---|
19 | 19 | | the board in one of the following areas: |
---|
20 | 20 | | (1) primary care; |
---|
21 | 21 | | (2) psychiatry; |
---|
22 | 22 | | (3) family practice; |
---|
23 | 23 | | (4) internal medicine; |
---|
24 | 24 | | (5) pediatrics; or |
---|
25 | 25 | | (6) obstetrics and gynecology. |
---|
26 | 26 | | (b) The board shall issue a license to an applicant |
---|
27 | 27 | | described by Subsection (a) who the board determines holds a |
---|
28 | 28 | | license issued by another jurisdiction that has licensing |
---|
29 | 29 | | requirements substantially equivalent to or more stringent than the |
---|
30 | 30 | | requirements of this state. |
---|
31 | 31 | | (c) The board shall issue a license to an applicant who |
---|
32 | 32 | | holds a license issued by a jurisdiction with which this state has a |
---|
33 | 33 | | reciprocity agreement. The board shall enter into an agreement with |
---|
34 | 34 | | another jurisdiction for the issuance of licenses by reciprocity to |
---|
35 | 35 | | applicants described by Subsection (a) if the other jurisdiction |
---|
36 | 36 | | has licensing requirements that are substantially equivalent to or |
---|
37 | 37 | | more stringent than the requirements of this state. |
---|
38 | 38 | | SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
---|
39 | 39 | | to an applicant for a physician license who submits an application |
---|
40 | 40 | | on or after January 1, 2016. |
---|
41 | 41 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
