| 8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Subchapter I, Chapter 545, Transportation Code, | |
| 10 | 10 | is amended by adding Section 545.4131 to read as follows: | |
| 11 | 11 | Sec. 545.4131. SAFETY BELT EXEMPTION PLACARD. (a) The Texas | |
| 12 | 12 | Department of Motor Vehicles shall provide for the issuance of a | |
| 13 | 13 | safety belt exemption placard to a person who should not wear a | |
| 14 | 14 | safety belt for a medical reason. | |
| 15 | 15 | (b) A safety belt exemption placard must be two-sided and | |
| 16 | 16 | hooked. | |
| 17 | 17 | (c) The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles shall adopt | |
| 18 | 18 | rules: | |
| 19 | 19 | (1) regarding the design and content of the safety | |
| 20 | 20 | belt exemption placard; | |
| 21 | 21 | (2) designating acceptable evidence that an applicant | |
| 22 | 22 | for a safety belt exemption placard has a medical reason for not | |
| 23 | 23 | wearing a safety belt; and | |
| 24 | 24 | (3) regarding the issuance and expiration of the | |
| 25 | 25 | safety belt exemption placard. | |
| 26 | 26 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
