9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 25.087, Education Code, is amended by | |
11 | 11 | adding Subsection (d-1) to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (d-1) A school district may excuse a student from attending | |
13 | 13 | school during the administration of a final examination for a | |
14 | 14 | course in which the student is enrolled if the school district | |
15 | 15 | allows the student, because of a good attendance record and high | |
16 | 16 | student academic achievement, to be exempt from the administration | |
17 | 17 | of the final examination. A student whose absence is excused under | |
18 | 18 | this subsection may not be penalized for that absence and shall be | |
19 | 19 | counted as if the student attended school for purposes of | |
20 | 20 | calculating the average daily attendance of students in the school | |
21 | 21 | district. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016 | |
23 | 23 | school year. | |
24 | 24 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
25 | 25 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
26 | 26 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
27 | 27 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
28 | 28 | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
