66 AN ACT
77 relating to the authority of a school district to excuse from school
88 attendance a student who is exempt from a final examination.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 25.087, Education Code, is amended by
1111 adding Subsection (d-1) to read as follows:
1212 (d-1) A school district may excuse a student from attending
1313 school during the administration of a final examination for a
1414 course in which the student is enrolled if the school district
1515 allows the student, because of a good attendance record and high
1616 student academic achievement, to be exempt from the administration
1717 of the final examination. A student whose absence is excused under
1818 this subsection may not be penalized for that absence and shall be
1919 counted as if the student attended school for purposes of
2020 calculating the average daily attendance of students in the school
2121 district.
2222 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016
2323 school year.
2424 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2525 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2626 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2727 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2828 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
