| 7 | 7 | | relating to the establishment of an innovative workforce training |

| 8 | 8 | | center in the Rio Grande Valley. |

| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 130, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | amended by adding Section 130.094 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 130.094. INNOVATIVE WORKFORCE TRAINING CENTER. (a) In |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | this section, "training center" means the Innovative Workforce |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Training Center established under this section. |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (b) The Innovative Workforce Training Center is established |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | to develop and provide initial and continuing education and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | training for workers in the Rio Grande Valley, including education |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and training in the following specific areas: |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (1) welding; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (2) civil, commercial, residential, and industrial |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | construction; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (3) installing electrical systems; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (4) installing heating, ventilation, and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | air-conditioning systems; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (5) mechatronics. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | (c) Texas Southmost College shall administer the training |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | center. The headquarters of the training center are located at |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Texas Southmost College in Brownsville. The training center may |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | use property and facilities owned or leased by Texas Southmost |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | College. |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | (d) The training center may solicit and accept gifts and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | grants from any public or private source for purposes of this |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | section. The legislature may appropriate money for purposes of |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | this section. |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
|---|
