9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 82.037(a), Government Code, is amended | |
11 | 11 | to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (a) Each person admitted to practice law shall, before | |
13 | 13 | receiving a license, take an oath that the person will: | |
14 | 14 | (1) support the constitutions of the United States and | |
15 | 15 | this state; | |
16 | 16 | (2) honestly demean oneself [himself] in the practice | |
17 | 17 | of law; [and] | |
18 | 18 | (3) discharge the attorney's duty to the attorney's | |
19 | 19 | [his] client to the best of the attorney's ability; and | |
20 | 20 | (4) conduct oneself with integrity and civility in | |
21 | 21 | dealing and communicating with the court and all parties. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
23 | 23 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
24 | 24 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
25 | 25 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
26 | 26 | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
