7 | 7 | | relating to a requirement that public school counselors provide |

8 | 8 | | parents with information regarding assessment instruments used in |

9 | 9 | | the admissions processes of colleges and universities. |

10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Section 33.007, Education Code, is amended by |
---|
12 | 12 | | adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: |

13 | 13 | | (d) In September and January of each school year, a school |
---|
14 | 14 | | counselor at a high school, including an open-enrollment charter |
---|
15 | 15 | | school offering high school grade levels, shall mail information |
---|
16 | 16 | | relating to the SAT, the ACT, and any other national |
---|
17 | 17 | | norm-referenced assessment instrument generally used by colleges |
---|
18 | 18 | | and universities as part of their undergraduate admissions |
---|
19 | 19 | | processes to the home address of the parent or guardian of each |
---|
20 | 20 | | student enrolled in grade 11 or 12. The information must include |
---|
21 | 21 | | upcoming administration dates for the assessment instruments and |
---|
22 | 22 | | associated registration deadlines. |
---|
23 | 23 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016 |
---|
24 | 24 | | school year. |
---|
25 | 25 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
26 | 26 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
27 | 27 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
28 | 28 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
29 | 29 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
