55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to a requirement that public school counselors provide
88 parents with information regarding assessment instruments used in
99 the admissions processes of colleges and universities.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 33.007, Education Code, is amended by
1212 adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
1313 (d) In September and January of each school year, a school
1414 counselor at a high school, including an open-enrollment charter
1515 school offering high school grade levels, shall mail information
1616 relating to the SAT, the ACT, and any other national
1717 norm-referenced assessment instrument generally used by colleges
1818 and universities as part of their undergraduate admissions
1919 processes to the home address of the parent or guardian of each
2020 student enrolled in grade 11 or 12. The information must include
2121 upcoming administration dates for the assessment instruments and
2222 associated registration deadlines.
2323 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016
2424 school year.
2525 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2626 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2727 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2828 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2929 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
