| 7 | 7 | | relating to entrance examinations for applicants for beginning |

| 8 | 8 | | positions in a municipal police department. |

| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 143.025, Local Government Code, is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | amended by adding Subsection (f-1) and amending Subsection (i) to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (f-1) An additional five points may be added to the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | examination grade of an applicant for a beginning position in the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | police department who successfully completed a career and technical |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | education program in criminal justice that is: |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (1) approved by the State Board of Education; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (2) offered by a high school located in the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | municipality in which the applicant is seeking employment. |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (i) The grade to be placed on the eligibility list for each |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | applicant shall be computed by adding an applicant's points under |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Subsection (f) and (f-1), if any, to the applicant's grade on the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | written examination. Each applicant's grade on the written |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | examination is based on a maximum grade of 100 percent and is |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | determined entirely by the correctness of the applicant's answers |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | to the questions. The minimum passing grade on the examination is 70 |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | percent. An applicant must pass the examination to be placed on an |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | eligibility list. |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
