55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to entrance examinations for applicants for beginning
88 positions in a municipal police department.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 143.025, Local Government Code, is
1111 amended by adding Subsection (f-1) and amending Subsection (i) to
1212 read as follows:
1313 (f-1) An additional five points may be added to the
1414 examination grade of an applicant for a beginning position in the
1515 police department who successfully completed a career and technical
1616 education program in criminal justice that is:
1717 (1) approved by the State Board of Education; and
1818 (2) offered by a high school located in the
1919 municipality in which the applicant is seeking employment.
2020 (i) The grade to be placed on the eligibility list for each
2121 applicant shall be computed by adding an applicant's points under
2222 Subsection (f) and (f-1), if any, to the applicant's grade on the
2323 written examination. Each applicant's grade on the written
2424 examination is based on a maximum grade of 100 percent and is
2525 determined entirely by the correctness of the applicant's answers
2626 to the questions. The minimum passing grade on the examination is 70
2727 percent. An applicant must pass the examination to be placed on an
2828 eligibility list.
2929 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3030 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3131 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3232 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3333 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
