16 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

17 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 21, Education Code, is |
---|
18 | 10 | | amended by adding Section 21.0487 to read as follows: |

19 | 11 | | Sec. 21.0487. TRADES AND INDUSTRIES EDUCATION |

20 | 12 | | CERTIFICATION FOR MILITARY PERSONNEL. (a) To the extent that rules |
---|
21 | 13 | | adopted under this subchapter require a person seeking trades and |
---|
22 | 14 | | industries education certification to hold a license or other |
---|
23 | 15 | | professional credential for a specific trade, a person who is a |
---|
24 | 16 | | current or former member of the United States armed services is |
---|
25 | 17 | | considered to have satisfied that requirement if the person has |
---|
26 | 18 | | experience in that trade obtained through military service. |
---|
27 | 19 | | (b) The board may not propose rules requiring a current or |
---|
28 | 20 | | former member of the United States armed services who seeks career |
---|
29 | 21 | | and technology education certification for a specific trade to hold |
---|
30 | 22 | | a credential related to that trade or possess experience related to |
---|
31 | 23 | | that trade other than the experience in that trade obtained through |
---|
32 | 24 | | military service. |
---|
33 | 25 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
34 | 26 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
35 | 27 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
36 | 28 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
37 | 29 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
