11- A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
124 AN ACT
135 relating to the authority of military personnel to obtain
146 certification to teach career and technology education classes in
157 public schools.
168 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
179 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 21, Education Code, is
1810 amended by adding Section 21.0487 to read as follows:
1911 Sec. 21.0487. TRADES AND INDUSTRIES EDUCATION
2012 CERTIFICATION FOR MILITARY PERSONNEL. (a) To the extent that rules
2113 adopted under this subchapter require a person seeking trades and
2214 industries education certification to hold a license or other
2315 professional credential for a specific trade, a person who is a
2416 current or former member of the United States armed services is
2517 considered to have satisfied that requirement if the person has
2618 experience in that trade obtained through military service.
2719 (b) The board may not propose rules requiring a current or
2820 former member of the United States armed services who seeks career
2921 and technology education certification for a specific trade to hold
3022 a credential related to that trade or possess experience related to
3123 that trade other than the experience in that trade obtained through
3224 military service.
3325 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3426 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3527 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3628 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3729 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
