By: Cook, Harless, Coleman, Allen, Huberty, H.B. No. 2186 et al. A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT r elating to suicide prevention training for certain educators and other employees of a school district. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. This Act may be cited as the Jason Flatt Act in memory of Jonathan Childers. SECTION 2. Section 161.325(c-2), Health and Safety Code, is amended to read as follows: (c-2) If a school district provides [the] training under Subsection (c-1), the training must specifically address the prevention of youth suicide, and[: [(1)] a school district employee described under that subsection must participate in the training at least once annually [one time; and [(2) the school district shall maintain records that include the name of each district employee who participated in the training]. SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016 school year. SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
