55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to instruction regarding mental health, substance abuse,
88 and youth suicide in educator training programs.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 21.044(c-1), Education Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 (c-1) Any minimum academic qualifications for a certificate
1313 specified under Subsection (a) that require a person to possess a
1414 bachelor's degree must also require that the person receive, as
1515 part of the training required to obtain that certificate,
1616 instruction regarding mental health, substance abuse, and youth
1717 suicide. The instruction required must be provided through a
1818 program selected from the list of recommended best practice-based
1919 programs established under Section 161.325, Health and Safety Code
2020 [in detection of students with mental or emotional disorders].
2121 SECTION 2. Section 21.044(c-2), Education Code, is
2222 repealed.
2323 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
