A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the election date for members of the board of trustees
of an independent school district.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 11, Education Code, is
amended by adding Section 11.0601 to read as follows:
Sec. 11.0601. DATE OF ELECTION. (a) The general election
for the board of trustees of an independent school district shall be
held on the November uniform election date under Section 41.001,
Election Code.
(b) The election shall be held as a joint election with any
other election held on the same date in all or part of the school
district under Chapter 271, Election Code.
(c) The board of trustees of an independent school district
changing an election date to comply with this section shall adjust
the terms of office of its members to conform to the new election
date.
SECTION 2. Section 11.0581, Education Code, is repealed.
SECTION 3. This Act applies only to an election ordered on
or after the effective date of this Act. An election ordered before
the effective date of this Act is governed by the law as it existed
immediately before the effective date of this Act, and that law is
continued in effect for that purpose.
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
