 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to requirements for a peace officer stopping a motor
 vehicle for a suspected violation of a traffic law.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Subchapter I, Chapter 545, Transportation Code,
 is amended by adding Section 545.428 to read as follows:
 Sec. 545.428.  MOTOR VEHICLE STOP BY PEACE OFFICER. A peace
 officer who directs the operator of a motor vehicle operating on a
 highway with a speed limit of at least 55 miles per hour to bring the
 motor vehicle to a stop for an alleged violation of a law or
 ordinance shall, if possible:
 (1)  direct the operator to stop the motor vehicle on
 another roadway with a speed limit of less than 55 miles per hour or
 in another location where the officer can safely approach the motor
 vehicle; or
 (2)  for a motor vehicle stopped on a highway with a
 speed limit of at least 55 miles per hour, direct the operator to
 move the motor vehicle to a roadway or location described by
 Subdivision (1).
 SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
